Lost Family
The 27 of November 1939 my family got a really scary note that said that we had to leave our house within 4 hours. I got really scared because I didn’t know what was happening. When we were walking out of the house I heard gunshots and people screaming. We ran as fast as we could to the train station and waited for the next train. When we came on the train my mom realized that one of my 7 siblings were missing. My mom started crying and my dad comforted her. When we arrived in Sweden my parents said that we were going to live here. I asked if my sister would ever come back but my parents didn’t answer me.
The next day we went to our new school, the teachers were nice and they introduced me to my new classmates. -“Good morning students, this is Aino. She is 7 years old and just moved here from Finland, she is your new classmate!” Everyone started whispering while I went to my desk. Then the class started, but I didn’t understand anything because they only talked Swedish. At break time I met a 15-year-old girl called Tinna, she was really nice to me. My classmates were not nice to me, they didn’t talk to me. They just stood there laughing at me. After school I ran home crying. My mom asked what was wrong and I told her about my classmates. After that we ate dinner and talked to my siblings about their school day.
A few weeks later after school when I was walking home from school I heard some kids calling my name and laughing. They were shouting at me in Swedish and pushing me around. A teenage boy came running towards us shouting -"Stop! What are you doing?". The bullies ran away laughing. The boy came up to me and asked if I was okay. Then I saw that Tinna was coming and I ran up to her and hugged her. She thanked Anton and she told me that Anton was living in her house. Anton was here in Sweden to work. Tinna invited me over for dinner and we talked a bit together.
A few months later when I had learned a bit Swedish and I had made some friends my mom came up to me and wanted to tell me something. -“Hi sweetie, the war is over and we can finally go back to Finland!” My mom said happily. “But… But I have made some friends here…” My mom looked at me, by that look I knew we had to leave Sweden. “Okay, when are we leaving?” I asked. “We have to leave tomorrow morning. The train leaves at 08:10.” I started crying and my mom hugged me.
The next morning, we woke up really early. We got ready to go to the train station but suddenly someone knocked on the door, I ran and opened the door and there, right in front of me Lilja, my sister stood. I couldn't believe my own eyes, she had been lost since we lived in Finland and there she stood. I jumped on her and screamed as loud as I could "MOM!!". She came running down and she ran and hugged her and got all emotional and started crying. We were all so happy but then we realized that the train was leaving soon so we ran to the train stop.
When we arrived to the train, I went with my parents to search some seats. And it was easy. The train was empty. I played with my sister for a while with the ball that Tinna had given me, but an hour later, tiredness and sleep overcame me.
In my dream, or rather, in my nightmare, the guys from my old school who were bullying me accompanied me home, telling me that I was useless. When I got home, in my nightmare, the boys had knocked down the door and they came to my room to find me and beat me. By the time they were going to hit me I woke up. That was the worst nightmare of my life.
Suddenly I heard loud noise and then all went black. ”-We were hit!” I heard someone yelling. My head hurt and I couldn’t see much. My sister helped me up and I saw that the train was destroyed. I went to look my parents but I couldn’t find them. I saw my sister froze and pointing on something. I walked closer and I saw my big brother laying on the ground. I was shocked. I heard loud hooter from ambulance and NGO was coming. Girl named Alice yelled to me and my sister to go out of the train. She helped us and brought us to the ambulance. ”- Are you hurt? Where is your parents?” I was so shocked that I couldn’t speak so my sister told her that our parents and many siblings were missing. Then we got to the shelter and there were lots of other people. Then I realized my leg had really deep cut so Alice helped me.
One month later, we got out of the shelter and we met our parents and five of our siblings. I started crying tears of joy. Finally, our family was together again. We left Alice in the shelter and when I was old enough I visited Sweden to see Tinna. Nowadays I live in Tampere, Finland.
