The trip to Switzerland
Hi! My name is Marketta and I am gonna tell you about my trip from Juuka to Switzerland and why I had to leave Finland. My family consists of my two older brothers, mom and dad.
It was one night when my parents woke me and my siblings and told us that the war had began and we had only 15 minutes to leave the house. We took some clothes and rye bread with us and we went straight to the trainstation. The trip was very long and everyone was very tired. Five hours later we were in Helsinki. In Helsinki a terrible thing happend, my brother got lost, we tried to find him but we didn't. We were very sad because we would never see him again. We didn’t stay in Finland because it was so dangerous. So we took the train and travelled to Switzerland. In the train there were fleas and other bugs. I couldn't sleep because the noise of train. It was long trip to Switzerland.
When we came to Switzerland it was very cloudy. People stared at us. It was very awkward. We had to walk three hours and our feet were dying. After walking long time we were very hungry. We didn't have any money so if we wanted to survive we were forced to steal food from people. We got a little bit bread and water. At nights we had to sleep in a uncomfortable place. It started to rain and we were wet and cold. In the morning we went out to find a new place to live. My family needed money so I found a job. I was cleaning other people houses. I didn't got much paid but enough so we could had food and some good place to live. This continued about three months.
Ten years later I met a man called Hannes. He was the first person that wanted to know all about me and how I got here, so I asked him if he wanted to go out for a walk. I felt like I knew this man. One day I took Hannes to my parents place and my dad said that Hannes looked familiar. We started eating dinner and talking about our childhood and then I recognize that he was my lost brother. We were all so happy and very shocked! The days went by and we saw almost every day. Finally we were reunited again. Life was going in the better direction.
