Day OneOn day one, Thursday 25th October, the students started to present the results of their research on migration. Then we visited the Town Hall. The Mayor of Pontedeume welcomed the whole group and we took a photo with the ‘mómaros’, those popular, festive characters of the village.

Day TwoOn Friday 26th there were some more presentations and we started the collaborative writing, the core activity of our project. Later, we left for Santiago de Compostela, where we visited the Pedagogical Museum of Galicia, learned of what schools looked like in the old times. Then we visited the ancient city and the cathedral.
Day ThreeOn Saturday 27th we had the encounter with former Galician migrants and learned a lot of useful things from their life experiences. Then we took a boat trip around the bay of Ferrol and had lunch together at a restaurant in San Xurxo.
Day FourOn Monday 29th we had an enlightening encounter with asylum seekers from Gambia, Syria and Guinea in the Faculty of Education premises in A Coruña. We learned about the dramatic conditions that forced them to flee their countries and seek a new life in our society. The we visited the Tower of Hercules, from which the huge liners loaded with Galician emigrants leaving their country could be seen decades ago.
Day FiveAnd finally, on Tuesday 30th we had the collaborative writing first, and then the Music Day. We sang, played instruments and learned from a folk musician how to dance in the traditional Galician style.
We would like to thank all our collaborators and particularly our stakeholders AFundación, the NGO Accem, and the Faculty of Education of the University of A Coruña for their precious help. |
