Far away from any war
Chapter 1
Rocket grabbed his sisters and took them to the underground bomb shelter. Cosmo and Nebula were confused and didn´t know what was going on. Their parents still weren´t there and Rocket was starting to get seriously worried.
Suddenly, a huge BOOM filled the air and everything shook. Cosmo and Nebula started to cry, tears running rapidly down their cheeks. Rocket pushed back his dark brown hair and decidedly did not cry. He pushed open the hatch, and left the shelter.
He slowly looked around, his eyes watering, and his nostrils burning at the smoke that hung in the air. The smell of sulfur was thick and stifling. His house, his home stood burning before him, his parents inevitably dead.
Rocket took a deep breath, trying to steady his shaking hands, and walked back to the shelter where he found his sisters in the clutches of a social worker.
Already, he thought miserably, but then he set his jaw and ran. He grabbed his sisters´ hands and they flew towards the woods at the edge of Rocket´s town. They ran for what felt like ages before they found a small lake.
‘Wow,’ Cosmo and Nebula said in unison. Rocket was too sad and tired to think of it, so he just told his sisters to go to sleep, which they promptly did. Rocket stayed awake for a while, letting tears fall, streaking his face.
Sleep did come, however and when he woke up he saw that his sisters were missing. He looked around frantically before spotting them right before they dove into the lake. Rocket ran and jumped in after them.
Suddenly the world felt like it was turning upside down. Rocket´s head spun, and then he was back next to the lake, with his sisters beside him. Something felt a bit off, although he wasn´t quite sure what it was.
Sunlight filtered through the green tops of trees, and there was not so much as a trace of smoke in the air. That´s odd.
Nebula pulled at Rocket´s sleeve and pointed with a small chubby finger. “Funny cow,” she said and Cosmo giggled. Rocket followed his sisters ‘gaze.
There in the clearing stood the strangest looking thing Rocket had ever seen in his entire life. It was about the size of a large cow, except it had huge horns and shaggy fur all over. It took one look at them and bolted into the trees.
Excluding this creature it seemed to Rocket that there was no one there. Little did he know that high in a tree above them a small humanoid girl watched their every move.
Chapter 2
Nashira loved her animals very much, all eight of them, so when her pig, Betty got hungry on their daily walk, she thought there was no reason she shouldn´t climb up the big apple tree to get her the plumpest, juiciest apple in the forest.
When she was almost to the top, however, she noticed some movement on the forest floor. She looked down and saw, what looked like an elf boy except he was almost twice as tall. He had two small ones with him, that from above looked exactly the same.
She carefully lowered herself to the ground and crawled slowly through the underground. She came up behind him and listened. She could understand the words he spoke, but his accent was gruffer and hard to understand.
-Who are you?-Said Nashira to the tall one.
-Hello, I'm Rocket, and these two are Cosmo and Nebula. Where are we?
Nashira didn't answer Rocket´s question, she was really quiet for a few minutes. Rocket waved his hand in front of Nashira, waiting for the answer.
-I'm Nashira, and we are at the forest. -She finally said.
Cosmo and Nebulla were playing with Nashira's pig, called Betty, but when she said ''The Forest'', the little girls stopped, and Rocket looked everywhere, trying to find his house.
Nashira disappeared in the trees with Betty, and she ran fast to her farm. The three people that come from the other world were confused, and Cosmo started to run after Nashira.
" Wait!" Rocket called after Cosmo and pulled Nebula along with him after her. Cosmo was small and it wasn't hard to catch up to her, but Nashira was another matter.
She seemed to have vanished and the three siblings were left to their own devices in a land they knew nothing about.
Rocket decided that the only option here was to go after this strange new person. He held his sister´s hand as he raced after the girl. After a while he slowed when he stumbled upon a small cottage.
It had a grass roof and a small wooden door, and the walls looked like they were made of mud. A large cow mooed at him as he passed and he jumped. As he looked past the small cottage he noticed a large herd of sheep.
As he was looking at the sheep he suddenly felt something poke him in the ribs. He looked down and noticed the stranger named Nashira looking up at him, with a bewildered look on her face.
"Do you wanna come in for dinner?" she asked him. "We´re having snails."Rocket was about to decline, as he didn´t feel very safe, but before he could say anything Cosmo was already thanking her and saying yes.
They walked into the house, and Rocket had to bow down his head to fit in the doorway. There was a fire in the back of the one room house, and a long table in the middle filled with snails, frogs and large pitchers full of milk. In the room was a small man, only slightly bigger than Nashira.
"Who is this, Nashira?" he said in the same strange accent Nashira had.
"This is Rocket, Cosmo and Nebula,"she said. "Can they have dinner with us?"
"Of course!" the man said. "Sit down, please. My name is Olaf."
As he went to sit down, Rocket accidentally slammed his head against the roof. As he sat rubbing his sore head he looked at the food in front of him and tried not to make a face. He saw Cosmo and Nebula take a bite, and decided it couldn´t be that bad.
He put a small bit of snail on his fork and swallowed. Surprisingly it didn´t taste bad. It was actually pretty good. Cosmo, on the other hand, did not find it appealing and spit her mouthful out immediately. At least Nebula seemed to like it.
Rocket looked over at Nashira, who had obviously seen what had happened, but was now looking over in the direction, pretending she hadn´t. As if by some signal the large pig from earlier came in to the house, walked straight up to Cosmo and ate everything on her plate.
Olaf looked over. "Bad pig, Betty!" he said and then looked over at Cosmo. "I´m sorry about that, but if you want, I´m sure Nashira will get some strawberries for you."
Nahsira stood up, smiled at the three of them and left for the strawberries. By the time she came back both Nebula and Rocket were very full, but poor Cosmo was so hungry that as soon as Nashira gave her the strawberries she ate them all very fast, and left not a single one for the others.
After dinner Olaf asked them if needed a place to stay. They did and when they got into the small bed provided for them, Rocket started thinking of home.
Everything had been fine, just last night. But now he was in a land far away, with people he didn´t know and weird food all around him. At least there wasn´t a war here.
